<p>Spoilt for choice in Sheffield, there&#8217;s not one but two, Alpine bars to soak up the après atmosphere in the city, surrounded by a Christmas market of 60 log cabins of local traders. Open from <strong>14 Nov</strong> – <strong>24 Dec</strong>, the bars will be hot spots for crowds supping toffee apple cider and mulled wine in the market place stretching from the Town Hall Square all the way to The Moor.</p>



<p>The largest, double-storey Alpine Lodge makes the coolest centrepiece in the <a href="https://www.welcometosheffield.co.uk/content/articles/the-winter-garden-and-peace-gardens/">Peace Gardens</a>. Enjoy panoramic views as good as any mountain on the iconic Big Wheel, where a little bit of wind-chill factor may creep in. Never fear, a traditional German sausage grill, Yorkshire Pudding wraps and churros provide some hearty grub to combat the cold. &nbsp;</p>

<p>This quirky bar restaurant, renowned for its Alpine-styled afternoon teas in the run-up to Christmas, follows the festive mantra: tis the season to devour. Muddy whole-heartedly agrees, particularly when they so generously throw an Après Ski party for charity. Held in the outdoor riverside garden on <strong>12 Dec</strong>, guests are encouraged to slip into their sallopettes and goggles (or winter walking gear) for a menu of special mountain-inspired dishes on the heated terrace. The <strong>£10</strong> ticket price, sales of Aperol Spritz on the night as well as donations of sleeping bags and warm clothes go to One Big Family, a charity supporting rough sleepers. That should give party goers a rosy glow both inside and out.</p>

<p>It is even Christmas if you&#8217;re not bathing in Champagne? Well, we&#8217;ve sniffed out ice buckets of Moët &amp; Chandon at Grantley Hall’s infamous Après at The Orchard. Back by demand, this luxe Alpine themed pop-up bar is just the spot to cosy up with a Champagne cocktail (or two), surrounded by fairy lights, fur throws, wood-burning stoves and a menu of tartiflette and fondue, oozing with melted cheese are suggested for sharing (well, if we must). To top it all, live acoustic music plays every Sunday evening – Champagne, chansons and chalet-chic, what’s not to love? Open to both hotel residents and day guests, reservations are required for dining, but not for drinks.</p>

<p>Get your skates on, seasonal Leeds attractions include the Ice Cube rink and Ski Bar helping to spread holiday cheer across the city centre seven days a week from <strong>22 Nov – 22 Dec</strong>. To soak in the après ski vibes, just head for the towering, 4m tall illuminated bear greeting you outside with the warmest of hugs. After dancing on ice with your kids, you’ll be ready to steady nerves with a Glühwein for you and hot chocolate for them before heading for the <a href="https://www.visitleeds.co.uk/winter-season/christmas-markets/">Christmas Markets</a>.</p>

<p>Who thought a touch of the Wild West could look so festive but the sight of THOR’s Tipis spells out CHRISTMAS in CAPITAL LETTERS. Popping up from <strong>Nov</strong> to <strong>Dec</strong> in Victoria Gardens, Leeds, as well as York’s Museum Gardens and The Milner Hotel grounds, these cosy, canvas, twinkly venues bring an Alpine flair to city centres. OK, so they’re meant to remind us of former Viking days, but we’re pretty sure these hardy Scandis cross-country skied their way here. Bob in for a mulled wine, hot chocolate with marshmallows, live music, winter dishes and the famous roaring log fire. Drink, feast, conquer, repeat.</p>
