For a romantic retreat for couples or an adventurous getaway for all the family (including the dog), we have just the spot. Two glamping lodges called Dexter and Megan at Hollins Farm in rural North Yorkshire offer luxurious comfort whether you’re looking for a cosy hideaway or family fun in a Hobbit-style holiday home, although I’m not sure even Bilbo Baggins had a hot tub.

Set in beautiful countryside, ideally located in Arkendale, this picture-postcard village is near the pretty market town of Knaresborough with its dramatic viaduct over the River Nidd. Step inside the horseshoe-shaped doors of the newly-built curvaceous pods with their wavy roofs and round windows to discover surprisingly spacious and spotless accommodation, along with panoramic views of the Yorkshire Dales and Kilburn White Horse.

The open-plan lounge/ kitchen diner/ kids’ bunk room is well designed and the fitted units incorporate all mod cons with a breakfast bar seating up to four. A dishwasher, large fridge freezer, electric oven, hob, grill and microwave, as well as a kettle, toaster and pod coffee maker make self-catering easy, although a pub serving great food is within walking distance.

A separate bedroom has a double bed, fitted wardrobe and second Smart TV, while the sofa bed in the lounge can sleep another couple or extra child. Most importantly for glamping, be rest assured there is a walk-in shower on tap as well as a flushing loo.

A safely enclosed garden to keep pets or kids from roaming as well as al fresco dining furniture for warmer weather mean you have all you need. Yet the pièce de resistance has to be the hot tub which can be booked as an optional extra at Dexter (and why would you not)? Privately screened and shielded by a pergola, the bubbles are ideal to wallow in with a glass of fizz, whether in sunshine, snow or under the stars.
