<p>If bugs are your kids&#8217; dream, then this will be a hit. <a href="https://harewood.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Harewood House</a> is turning itself into an enormo bug-themed extravaganza this half term <strong>(23-31 May)</strong>. Expect mini beast safaris, bug hunts and wildlife crafts. <br><br>If you prefer your green things to stand still, <a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/harlow-carr/whats-on/may-half-term-at-harlow-carr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate</strong></a> has plenty in store. Enjoy some healthy competition with the lawn games (<strong>23 May – 31 May</strong>), including classics such as Jenga and four-in-a-row, or go all out with their sports day extravaganza <strong>(25 – 29 May)</strong> where the Garden Detectives challenges families to some fun games and races. Garden admission applies, kids aged 5–16 yrs £5; under 5s free.</p>

<p>But if a trail hunt is your kids&#8217; idea of fun, the <strong>Abbey House Museum</strong> is putting on its <a href="https://museumsandgalleries.leeds.gov.uk/whats-on/gnomes-sweet-gnome-lv4g" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gnomes Sweet Gnome</a> Family Trail (<strong>24 May – 1 June</strong>). All you need to do is grab a trail sheet and find as many gnomes as you can tucked away in the Victorian Streets. They’ll also have some crafty activities going on – and be sure to check out the charming Story Time Exhibition while you’re there. (Included in admission).</p>

<p>Bring the animal kingdom brought to life at <a href="https://visityork.org/events/the-carnival-of-the-animals-2" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">York Minster</a> with a yomp through Camille Saint-Saëns’&nbsp;<em>The Carnival of the Animals&nbsp;</em>performed on the cathedral’s grand organ and accompanied by a narrator sharing facts about the animals in the piece. Your curious ones will also have the chance to get up close to the organ and see how it&#8217;s played. <strong>26 May</strong>, £7 for children, £10 for adults. </p>

<p>If the half-term madness ever has you running on empty (we’re right there with you), perhaps a more relaxed family craft session will be right up your street. Bob in to <a href="https://skiptontownhall.co.uk/whats-on/make-and-take-3d-pop-up-gallery/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Skipton Town Hall</a> on <strong>27 May</strong> to make and curate your own 3D pop up art gallery inspired by the current Aesthetica exhibition.. No need to book – just drop in at either 10am or 1pm.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-boredom-busters">BOREDOM BUSTERS</h2>



<p>Mighty machines, tractor rides and all‑weather play – <a href="https://www.swithensfarm.co.uk/events/mighty-machines-at-may-half-term/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Swithens Farm</a> is our half-term hero. Its Mighty Machines event is rolling in this half term (<strong>23–31 May</strong>), giving kids the chance to get up close to the farm’s real working machinery, with big kit on display, live talks and tractor rides to gawp at and climb on.</p>

<p>Round out May in the mystical way possible at <strong><a href="https://www.mothershipton.co.uk/events/may-half-term/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mother Shipton’s Cave</a></strong> in lovely Knaresborough. This much-loved tourist attraction is pretty iconic – where else would you find an event that channels ancient folklore and fairytales? You and the kids can follow the fairy-dust filled journey through the beautiful woodlands, making for a particularly memorable day out <strong>(24 May – 1 June</strong>).
