Yorkshire’s own Nick Ahad won big at the Olivier Awards (best Family Show for his adaptation of The Boy At The Back Of The Class ) last week. And we were all, of course, rooting for Rachel Ziegler to walk away with best musical actress &#8211; and she did. If you didn’t catch her Evita, then worry not because there are plenty more Yorkshire musicals to wrap your ears round.

This musical, frankly, had us at the title. After a smash-hit UK tour, the musical returns to Yorkshire. The plot? Ordinary suburban Frankie never dreamed of stardom until a chance encounter sweeps her from gritty, grey Huddersfield (oi, watch what you’re saying) to the glitzy world of Bollywood. When Muddy Yorkshire’s new editor saw this for the first time she said, “I hate it, it’s stupid” before crying into her daughter’s jumper for the next two hours. West End hottie Lee Mead plays the legendary PT Barnum in this chaotic technicolour celebration of the wild life of the circus master. Mead is charming and his circus skills are excellent but all we can think of is Julia from Motherland saying “LeeMead, LeeMead” over and over again. Cy Coleman’s music is timeless though and this is a joyful night out you won’t forget.&nbsp;

You KNOW this is going to be better than you think it is. Remember what happened with the Back To The Future musical? This was even written by the original screenwriter of the 80s film. We haven’t checked whether there’s a song called Wax On, Wax Off but we’re sincerely hoping.
