<p>Nothing says childhood beach days like ice cream with sprinkles, building sandcastles and dabbling in the arcades. Fortunately for us, Scarborough is an easily accessible seaside town that delivers all the above &#8211; and then some. As one of the UK’s first coastal resorts, Scarborough makes your best nostalgic memories a reality with its family-centred attractions and long, sandy beaches. There’s also two beaches to choose from &#8211; so if you’d rather steer clear of the gimmicks (we get it: it’s a love or hate thing) and enjoy a more peaceful seaside escape, you can always head to the North Bay with the kiddos. Just don’t forget to head to <a href="https://www.tunnyclub.co.uk/">The Tunny Club</a> for your obligatory fish and chips fix!</p>

<p>With its 5-mile sandy beach, the&nbsp;charming seaside town of Filey is a must-visit for families looking to breathe in some fresh sea air (and go home with sand in their shoes). As well as offering a gently sloping beach, amusement arcades and quirky shops and cafes, you can also head to Filey Brigg &#8211; a Site of Special Scientific Interest thanks to its marine and geological life. So, as well as spotting grey seals and Atlantic puffins, you could also find a few fossils &#8211; no doubt something the kids will be bragging about at school!&nbsp;</p>

<p>Think of Bridlington as the ultimate box ticker for everything you could want from a fun-packed family day at the beach. You’ve got your sandy beaches, you’ve got your buzzing promenade, you’ve got your cheerful architecture… add donkey rides, a sugary stick of rock, and a pot of lobster tails to the mix, and you’re in for a guaranteed great time. If you want something a little more relaxed, have a stroll through the old town where you’ll find a selection of independent shops, cafes, and galleries. Never a dull day in Brid!</p>

<p>Voted ‘Britain’s Beach of the Year’ by the Sunday Times in 2020, Runswick Bay makes for an idyllic spot to bring your four legged friend. Find the picturesque (read: Instagram worthy) fishing village just along the North Yorkshire Coast, where it offers dog walkers a refreshing open space of sand, sea, and rock pools. Its natural beauty is honoured by the red roof cottages and colourful fishing boats &#8211; making it a firm favourite for visitors looking for a safe but genuinely beautiful seaside town to spend the day at. All that’s needed is a ball and a bag of dog treats!&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the more popular holiday destinations is Robin Hood’s Bay, a haven of independent shops, seafood restaurants, and traditional pubs. But before you get to <em>that </em>part, the beach calls for a long (and hopefully sun-soaked)&nbsp;walk with your dog in tow! They’ll love the open space to explore wherever the new smells take them &#8211; and you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the cliffs while they’re at it. Robin Hood’s Bay is just 6 miles from Whitby, so you can even walk there if you fancy the challenge. Always helps if there’s a chilled glass of rose waiting for you at the end of it, I suppose…</p>

<p>Where to begin with Flamborough? Whether you’re bringing the kids, seeking a romantic day out, or craving a girls day to put the world to right &#8211; Flamborough’s scenic (and dog-friendly) walks will no doubt fit the bill. Its North Landing Beach is surrounded by incredible chalk cliffs and grass hills, making it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life *mentally puts out of office on*. Its natural beauty is nothing short of spectacular: with its blue waters and rockpool’s just waiting to be explored. And if you’re an avid nature lover, head to Bempton Cliffs where you can see half a million seabirds gathering together to nest in the cliffs &#8211; a true spectacle!&nbsp;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-staithes">Staithes&nbsp;</h3>

Expect cobbled streets, postcard worthy coastal views, and an instant throwback in time thanks to the quirky architecture and historic harbour. If indie shopping is your bag, you’ll love getting lost in the local galleries and shops &#8211; all to be finished off with a freshly caught fish from the<a href="https://www.codandlobster.co.uk/"> Cod and Lobster</a>.</p>

<p>When it comes to hidden gems, Cloughton is an absolute treasure of a village that – quite frankly – doesn’t get the rap it deserves (not complaining… more for us to enjoy!). Picture this: a secluded cove nestled just between the more popular destinations of Scarborough and Whitby featuring a stunning waterfall and pebbled beach – what we’d class as<em> the</em> dreamiest location to enjoy your picnic in peace. But it doesn’t stop there. Oh no! There’s a beautiful woodland to explore brimming with nature and wildlife. Mobile phone off, retreat mode on.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Okay, we’ve mentioned Whitby a few times already &#8211; so it’s only right we include the nation’s beloved seaside town. And while the famously characterful streets and impressive harbour are major attractions in their own right, we’re sure as hell not leaving without sampling some of the best fish and chips in the UK. Yep, Whitby just happens to be home to two must-visits to satisfy your salty, vinegary, just the right level of greasy cravings: <a href="https://www.trenchersrestaurant.co.uk/">Trenchers</a> and <a href="https://www.magpiecafe.co.uk/">The Magpie. </a>Spend the day exploring the adorable town (it’s hilly, so wear good shoes!) to work up an appetite for a meal that’s<em> so</em> worth travelling for.&nbsp;</p>

Located in the b-e-a-utiful sand and shingle beach of Saltburn, which is surrounded by a delightful resort offering everything you could want from a seaside trip, The Seaview Restaurant knows a thing or two about cooking fresh seafood &#8211; and doing it really, <em>really </em>well. Quality and sustainability are by no means compromised when it comes to creating their menu, which includes refined dishes from lemon sole and curries mussels right through to your seaside staples of haddock and chips. It was also featured on <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0006vw5">Remarkable Places to Eat</a>, so if it’s good enough for Nadiyah, you know you’re in for a gastronomic treat!&nbsp;</p>

<p>Foodies, you<em> need </em>to get yourself down to Sandsend to sample the delights of its epic restaurant, <a href="https://www.fishcottage.co.uk/">The Fish Cottage. </a>First off, get the family together and take a walk down Sandsend’s golden sandy beach, where you can spend the afternoon fishing in rock pools/getting sand in every nook and cranny of both your body and every item you own (a sure sign of a great beach day). By then, you’ll no doubt be ravenous for The Fish Cottage’s incredible seafood focused menu. From their King prawn risotto and catch of the day to a more rustic Fish Cottage taco rack &#8211; you’ll no doubt leave with a happy stomach. Crab fries for the table? Absolutely.&nbsp;</p>
