<p>Sunshine a bit too much for you? It took us by surprise, too. Head underground for a bit and explore glittering limestone caverns, then warm up with hot chocolate and take on seasonal trails at <a href="https://www.stumpcrosscaverns.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stump Cross Caverns</a>.</p>



<p>If you’re eager to shake off the effects of the Easter eggs, then check out <a href="https://www.leedsrunningfestival.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Leeds Running Festival</a>, which takes place in Roundhay Park, one of Europe’s biggest city parks on <strong>Sun 5 Apr</strong>. Run a Junior, 5k, 10k or half-marathon in support of St Gemma’s Hospice. Feel good and do good at the same time.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Make the most of the promised April weather (we have no idea if “they” have promised this, we’re just remaining hopelessly optimistic), by checking out Team Walking’s range of <a href="https://www.teamwalking.co.uk/walks-calendar/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">guided walks</a> in the region. We like the look of the Lovely Great Hike, a high-level walk around Wensleydale, Swaledale and Mallerstang. Our feet might not feel so lovely in the morning, but it’ll be worth it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>April’s a seriously strong month for Yorkshire musical lovers. York has bagsied itself a run of the global smash <em><a href="https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/come-from-away/grand-opera-house-york/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Come From Away</a></em> at the Grand Opera House (<strong>Fri 10 – Sat 18 Apr</strong>), the uplifting true story of the tiny Newfoundland town that hosted thousands of stranded passengers after 9/11. Hot on its heels is <em><a href="https://leedsheritagetheatres.com/whats-on/legally-blonde-2026/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Legally Blonde</a></em> (<strong>Tues 21 – Sat 25 Apr</strong>) with its bend‑and‑snap choreography and big feel-good energy. Has a show ever had as many rave reviews? Catch this year’s favourite, <a href="https://www.bradford-theatres.co.uk/whats-on/operation-mincemeat?gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=23657505508&amp;gbraid=0AAAAA9cx67pEHgWWqSP5Rj_s8nF1uqwTg&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw7IjOBhDyARIsAFzrWQwOJUFe-0unVPzWBChgyYpE1n8IfSgxRZSlhEwESs3gWS6khNiRC1UaAjVtEALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Operation Mincemeat</em></a>, at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford (<strong>Mon 6 – Sat 11 Apr</strong>).</p>



<p>Everybody’s favourite pink icon is on tour with the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bradford-theatres.co.uk/whats-on/peppa-pigs-big-family-show" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Peppa Pig Live: Peppa Pig Big Family Show!</em>.</a> The shiny new show is calling at Bradford&#8217;s St George&#8217;s Hall (<strong>Sat 11 &#8211; Sun 12 Apr</strong>). It&#8217;s a bright, gentle introduction to theatre for your little ones and the perfect family day outing – so you can keep them busy while you kick back and relax a little. </p>

<p><a href="https://hiyf.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Harrogate International Youth Festival</a> marches into town this month (<strong>Fri 3 Wed – 8 Apr</strong>) filling churches, theatres and outdoor spaces with youth choirs, bands and orchestras from around the world. Get there for the opening procession and rolling outdoor concerts. You might be inspired to pick up an instrument yourself.</p>



<p>Whether you’re genuinely green‑fingered, just in it for the floral ‘gram or just need a flower fix, <a href="https://www.flowershow.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Harrogate Spring Flower Show</a> (<strong>Thu 23 – Sun 26 Apr</strong>), kicking off the UK’s annual gardening calendar (we’re telling you, the great and the gardening good will all be there). And while you’re feeling the plant-based love, check out Burton Agnes Orchid Festival (<strong>until Sun 12 Apr</strong>) near Driffield, when the hall’s rooms will be transformed with dramatic orchid displays.<br><br>A whole festival dedicated to chocolate? So close to Easter? Bring. It. On. <a href="https://visityork.org/events/york-chocolate-festival-2026" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">York Chocolate Festival</a> (<strong>Wed 1 – Sun 5 Apr</strong>) promises artisan stalls, live demos, truffle‑making workshops and a whole load of regrets.And if you’re still hungry after all that, head to Scarborough Food &amp; Drink Festival (<strong>Sun 12 – Mon 13 Apr</strong>) with street food trucks, Yorkshire producers, artisan stalls and live cooking demos. Bring your bucket and spade. If cosplay’s your thing, then <a href="https://scifiscarborough.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sci‑Fi Scarborough</a> (<strong>Sat 18 – Sun 19 Apr</strong>) at Scarborough Spa will sort you out. This year’s highlights include former Dr Who, Paul McGann and Danny John-Jules, Red Dwarf’s Cat.</p>

<p>If furious and funny rants from “geriatric millennial feminists” (preach) are your thing then you should check out the marvellous Jess Fostekew’s latest show, <em><a href="https://www.hulltruck.co.uk/whats-on/comedy/jessica-fostekew-iconic-breath/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Iconic Breath</a></em>, at the Hull Truck Theatre (<strong>Fri 17 Apr</strong>). Loose Women regular Judi Love (the first Black British female comic to sell out the London Palladium, no less) brings her show, <em><a href="https://leedsheritagetheatres.com/whats-on/judi-love-2026/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">All About The Love,</a></em> to the Leeds Grand (<strong>Sun 26 Apr</strong>). But if you have strong thoughts about how you take your tea, join <a href="https://leedsheritagetheatres.com/whats-on/josh-widdicombe-2026/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Josh Widdecombe</a> at the same theatre a few days later (<strong>Wed 29 Apr</strong>) for a reflection of the hit podcaster and standup’s 15 years in comedy.&nbsp;</p>

Indie stalwarts James belt out their decades of anthems alongside some new material at <a href="https://www.firstdirectbankarena.com/events/detail/james-2026" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Leeds Arena </a>on <strong>Sat 4 Apr</strong>, while the dulcet-toned Katherine Priddy hits the<a href="https://www.brudenellsocialclub.co.uk/whats-on/katherine-priddy2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Brudenell Social Club</a> on <strong>Sun 26 Apr</strong> and the glorious <a href="https://www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk/tori-amos/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tori Amos</a> graces Sheffield on <strong>Wed 8 Apr</strong>. Check out the indie stars of the future at This Feeling’s By The Sea festival heads back to Bridlington Spa on <strong>Fri 17 &amp; Sat 18 Apr</strong> – a lovely lineup of This Feeling shows held in grassroots venues across the UK. However, <em>we’re</em> all rolling our way to Rick Astley on <strong>Sat 18 Apr </strong>(he’s also appearing in Scarborough in June ICYMI). You’ll know us by our acid-wash denim.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

We don’t know but we’re totally on board with it. Dust off your lyrics to Colours of Day and check out his <a href="https://www.yorkbarbican.co.uk/whats-on/james-b-partridge/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Primary School Bangers</a> show at York’s Barbican, also on <strong>Sat 4 Apr</strong>.</p>



<p>Enormous bottoms and the world’s largest fart machine. SIGH. But, trust us, your kids will love this <a href="https://www.leedsplayhouse.org.uk/event/rude-science-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rude Science</a> show at Leeds Playhouse (<strong>Wed 15 &amp; Thurs 16 Apr</strong>). It’s Stefan Gates at his finest &#8211; and they won’t even know they’re being secretly educated.</p>



<p>If you fancy a boogie, with or without the kids, head to Boomchikkaboom’s <a href="https://leedsheritagetheatres.com/whats-on/boomchikkaboom-2026/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">family rave</a> on <strong>Tues 7 Apr</strong> in Leeds. There’s floating bubbles, giant balloons, a snow machine and some dance floor bangers. What’s not to love?</p>
