<p>This winter,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/harlow-carr/whats-on/harlow-carr-glow?utm_source=muddystilettos&amp;utm_medium=ad-rhs&amp;utm_campaign=glowmuddystilettos&amp;utm_content=harlowcarr-image-glowmuddystilettos" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">RHS Glow&nbsp;at Harlow Carr</a> is everything you want from a Yorkshire festive fling: dazzling lights, lakeside reflections, bratwurst by the fire and Betty’s treats in hand. Whether you&#8217;re herding kids, on a twinkly date night, or simply itching for an excuse to swap slippers for sparkle, Glow will lift your spirits faster than a steaming mug of mulled wine. </p>



<p>From 19 Nov – 23 Dec, the gardens are reimagined as a kaleidoscope of colour – a shiny new trail guiding you past twinkling trees, glowing snowballs and the breathtaking Thaliana Bridge, lit to show off her architectural beauty as she shimmers across Queen Mother’s Lake. Here we’ve rounded up five glittering reasons why we <em>know</em> you’ll fall head over heels for it.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-a-brand-new-trail-to-explore">1. A brand-new trail to explore</h2>



<p>Glow 2025 has had a total revamp, so even seasoned visitors will find themselves wide-eyed at the surprises in store. Familiar landscapes are transformed with bold beams of colour and soft glows, turning every corner into a new festive stage. One minute you’re beneath a canopy of fairy-lit branches, the next you’re staring across a lawn shimmering in jewel tones. The big finish? Sweeping views over Queen Mother’s Lake, where the reflections multiply the magic.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-thaliana-bridge-amp-magical-creatures">2. Thaliana Bridge &amp; magical creatures</h2>

<p>Step onto the star of this year’s show – the striking Thaliana Bridge – which is bathed in rich, glowing hues. Its curves and arches are lit like a sculpture, mirrored perfectly in the still waters of Queen Mother’s Lake. Add to this the illuminated Libellule dragonflies swooping across the gardens and glowing snowballs dangling from the trees, and you’ve got a trail that feels like stepping into a fantasy film. It’s whimsical, romantic and Insta-gold all at once.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-lights-that-sing-back">3. Lights that sing back</h2>



<p>No, you haven’t had too much mulled wine – some of the lights really do sing. <em>Octave</em>, the interactive sound-and-light installation, pulses in rhythm and melody, turning the gardens into a living, glowing symphony. Kids will love dashing about to see what changes, while grown-ups can soak up the artistry (or sneak in a slow dance under the fairy lights). It’s playful, immersive and a serious crowd-pleaser.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-4-festive-food-amp-drink-to-warm-you-up">4. Festive food &amp; drink to warm you up</h2>

<p>Exploring light trails on a chilly evening is hungry work, and Glow does not disappoint. Along the route, sip indulgent hot chocolates (cream and marshmallows, obviously) or spiced mulled wine that’ll warm you from the inside out. Betty’s Teahouse provides the sweet treats we all secretly came for, while new for this year, <a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/harlow-carr/garden-highlights/harrogate-arms-cafe">The Harrogate Arms</a>, is serving bratwurst and jacket potatoes – proper fuel for a winter wander. Best of all, you can toast marshmallows over a crackling fire, cheeks glowing as much as the lights above you. If this isn’t Christmas bottled, we don’t know what is.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-5-shop-the-magic-of-christmas">5. Shop the magic of Christmas</h2>



<p>Before you leave, make time for the&nbsp;RHS Harlow Carr Garden Centre&nbsp;– this is where the festive loot lives. Stock up on traditional and quirky decorations, unique gifts for gardeners, and quirky stocking fillers guaranteed to raise smiles. Add festive houseplants, beautifully crafted wreaths and a UK-grown Christmas tree, and you’ll head home feeling like you’ve smuggled a slice of Glow into your living room.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-need-to-knows">The need-to-knows</h2>



<p>Glow runs on selected dates 19 Nov – 23 Dec, 4.30pm–8.30pm. Tickets are £17.25 adults, £9.25 children (5–16), under-5s free, with RHS Members enjoying discounted entry. Booking in advance is <em>essential</em> – this event sells out faster than pigs-in-blankets at Christmas dinner.</p>

<li><strong>Food strategy: </strong>Warm up with bratwurst and jacket potatoes at the Harrogate Arms, then stockpile Betty’s goodies for the car ride home.</li>



<li><strong>Parking: </strong>On-site at RHS Harlow Carr, but it fills up. Harrogate town centre is close if you fancy making a night of it with cocktails after.</li>
