<p>After a long bus journey, followed by a hot taxi and too-tight shoes (that’s a long story), there’s never been a more welcoming sight than the Timble Inn. You feel like you’ve arrived in the middle of nowhere (when in fact it’s just a short drive from Otley or Harrogate) and as you wend your way down the road you can feel your shoulders start to sag. I’d take that as a sign that the vibe here is relaxed. There are fresh flowers on the bar and manager Chris barrels back and forth knowing everyone’s names and taking time to ask questions.</p>

<p>Food at the Timble Inn looks pretty special Luckily, it also tastes good. I opted for a delicious pea soup, accompanied by a devilishly warm bread roll and butter to start. Intrigued, I ordered a beetroot risotto expecting it to be a vegetarian afterthought but it hit the spot so beautifully I’m still thinking about it. While I was dining, the woman at the table next to exclaimed, “Wow that IS a Yorkshire pudding!” so I can safely say that was also good.<br></p>

<p><br>And as for dessert (immortalised above for your pleasure &#8211; stop crying), my mille-feuille was the highlight of my week, let alone my stay. I wavered between that and the panna cotta but Chris reassured me the mille-feuille had more “technical capability”, which made me laugh for half an hour but wasn’t wrong. It’s a total feat. <br><br>Breakfast was a full English (veggie) natch and it didn’t disappoint. Two staff members competed for who could make the best flat white and both were perfect. </p>

<p>Rooms are that lovely mix of period and modern with soft carpets, large comfy beds and top-quality bedding. All come with tea and coffee making facilities and (mine at least) a delicious freshly-baked cookie. There’s also deliciously scented toiletries from Harrogate-based H2K to enjoy in the roomy baths (with overhead showers).&nbsp;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-accessibility">ACCESSIBILITY</h3>



<p>Some rooms have their own separate entrance upstairs outside the hotel, which feels quite special. Seven of the hotel’s nine bedrooms are on the first floor and two are on the ground floor with level access. There is also hypo-allergenic bedding available and large-print menus on request. </p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-family-friendly">FAMILY FRIENDLY</h3>



<p>The most charming family dined next to me (cue needlessly apologetic parents) and were indulged and petted by the staff. There are no designated family rooms per se but the gorgeous Nidderdale Suite has a four-poster bed and a pull-out sofa bed as well as plenty of space for children.</p>

<p>This hotel is in the heart of Nidderdale’s Washburn Valley so it’s the perfect spot for a good old hike (in fact, it’s very popular with walkers). There’s so much beautiful scenery to enjoy and Fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks are a short drive away, along with the pretty town of Pateley Bridge (featuring England’s oldest sweet shop).</p>

<p>This is a lovely little bolt hole far from the beaten track, where guest comfort is paramount.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> It’s not ideal if you don’t have a car as it’s a taxi ride from the nearest towns (Otley or Harrogate).</p>
