<p>Every year Netflix rolls out this much-loved 2006 rom-com about heartbroken journalist Iris (Kate Winslet) who swaps her Surrey cottage for an LA mansion owned by movie-trailer-maker Amanda (Cameron Diaz). And year after year we fall for Iris’ brother Graham (played by Jude Law aka Mr Napkin Head) and the ridiculously gorgeous homes.</p>

<p><strong>Set, jet, go!&nbsp;</strong>The Surrey section of the movie was filmed around Shere, where you can still go for a drink at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.chefandbrewer.com/pubs/surrey/white-horse" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The White Horse</a>&nbsp;pub and caper in the grounds of nearby&nbsp;<a href="https://cromwellmanor.co.uk/contact-us/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cromwell Manor</a>, just like Cam and Jude in the movie. </p>

<p>Sadly you can’t stay at Iris’ Rosehill Cottage IRL, but there are plenty of other places that hit the spot if Iris’ shabby chic home’s a bit of you. <strong><a href="https://yorkshireescapes.co.uk/listing/scold-house-broughton-sanctuary-skipton-yorkshire-dales/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Scold House</a></strong> in the Yorkshire Dales has all the quirky features you could need from a romantic bolthole (or solo escape), including a country-style living room, roaring fire, and beamed ceiling.</p>

<p>Over in sun-kissed LA, Amanda’s Mediterranean-style mansion with a pool, movie room and black out blinds – bliss – was actually filmed at a house in the San Marino estate in Pasadena, which last sold for a cool $11.8 million back in 2018. If you want to follow Iris’ lead and swap rain for sunshine this Xmas, we’ve found a sprawling Med-style&nbsp;<a href="https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/1459687165675358580?search_mode=regular_search&amp;adults=1&amp;check_in=2026-01-02&amp;check_out=2026-01-07&amp;children=0&amp;infants=0&amp;pets=0&amp;source_impression_id=p3_1765287663_P3lY11CLm4nTFXdT&amp;previous_page_section_name=1000&amp;federated_search_id=ff64d487-14c3-42e8-a63e-aa842bce5ac8" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hacienda</a>&nbsp;with pool, hot tub and gym a few miles from Venice Beach and Beverley Hills, baby *books immediately*.</p>

<p>Another cracker of a Christmas movie, though this one’s mainly centred around London. Richard Curtis’ star-studded Xmas rom-com was a smash hit back in 2003 and, love it or loathe it, the capital sure does make a pretty backdrop to memorable scenes like Mark’s (Andrew Lincoln) silent declaration to Juliet (Keira Knightly) and Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) and his assistant (Martine McCutcheon) outside Number 10 Downing Street.</p>

<p><strong>Set, jet, go!</strong>&nbsp;London’s always dazzling at Christmas, from&nbsp;<a href="https://london.muddystilettos.co.uk/xmas/see-best-xmas-lights-on-foot/">light trails</a>&nbsp;to amazing&nbsp;<a href="https://london.muddystilettos.co.uk/xmas/must-see-christmas-trees/">Xmas trees</a>,&nbsp;but if you want to follow in the footsteps of the&nbsp;<em>Love Actually</em>&nbsp;crew, here’s how. Andrew Lincoln’s (slightly disturbing in retrospect) cue cards scene was filmed in St Luke’s Mews in Notting Hill (number 27 if you want a snap for Insta), while Juliet and Peter’s wedding took place at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.grosvenorchapel.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Grosvenor Chapel</a>&nbsp;in South Audley Street, Mayfair (you can pop in, just don’t expect a brass band welcome).</p>

<p>Harry’s (Alan Rickman) necklace purchase for his not-yet-a-mistress Mia was filmed in the jewellery department of&nbsp;<a href="https://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/stores/london/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Selfridges</a>&nbsp;on Oxford Street – we’ll never forgive him for doing the dirty on Emma Thompson. You can recreate Mark’s emosh walk beside the River Thames after Juliet discovers he filmed only her during her wedding (stalker alert) by strolling along the Southbank from Oxo Tower down to the Houses of Parliament. And the PM’s last-minute dash to find his assistant took place at 102 Poplar Road, Herne Hill.</p>

<p>Son of a nutcracker!&nbsp;<em><strong>Elf&nbsp;</strong></em>was first shown back in 2003, and this classic movie about Buddy (played by Will Ferrell) who’s not the elf he thought he was, provides major Christmas feels. When he leaves the North Pole to seek answers in New York City, the consequences are hilarious, heart-warming and make you want to spend Christmas in the Big Apple. As does&nbsp;<em><strong>Home Alone 2</strong></em>, another festive fave starring Macaulay Culkin as Kevin, a young boy who stops a holiday heist by Harry (Jo Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern).</p>

<p>Next up,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.centralpark.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Central Park</a>, which stars in<em>&nbsp;Elf&nbsp;</em>multiple times, including Santa’s sleigh breaking down and a snowball fight filmed at Pinebank Arch Bridge at West 62nd Street. Pull on some skates and slide around the rink at the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rockefellercenter.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rockefeller Centre</a>, just like Buddy and Josie (Zooey Deschanel) and hopscotch across the road outside&nbsp;<a href="https://www.macys.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Macey’s</a>&nbsp;department store on 34th Street (just be sure to dodge those yellow cabs).&nbsp;</p>
