<p>Hot off the Press – or fresh-baked from the oven – the 2025 restaurant selection of <a href="https://guide.michelin.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Michelin Guide: Great Britain &amp; Ireland</a> was unveiled on 10 Feb during the annual ceremony held for the first time in Scotland at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery. A total of 1,147 restaurants – including 220 Starred ones – were chosen in the selection, with Lancashire’s Moor Hall, led by an ecstatic and emotional head chef Mark Burchill, scooping The Guide’s latest prestigious Three-Star Award. A further three restaurants have been given Two Michelin Stars and there are 22 new One-Star establishments.</p>

<p>Among them is Yorkshire’s very own <a href="https://middletonlodge.co.uk/eat/">Forge at Middleton Lodge</a> in Richmond, where head chef Jake Jones won Michelin’s Young Chef Award in 2024, within just a year of opening. The 33-year-old, raised in York, has now fulfilled the Michelin inspectors’ predictions as ‘one to watch’. Dedicated to conserving the land and showcasing a timeless experience, the ‘estate-to-plate’ ethos uses ingredients grown in the 200 acres of grounds and kitchen garden or reared nearby for the exciting tasting menus which include vegan and vegetarian dishes. No wonder, then, that Forge has also retained its Michelin Green Star awarded last year. The venue is part of a luxury estate with a beautiful spa and boutique cottage-style rooms alongside the esteemed restaurant.</p>



<p>God’s own county has been awarded a fresh Michelin Green Star, too, one of only five in 2025. The family-run <a href="https://thehomesteadgoathland.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Homestead Goathland</a> restaurant was highlighted with a film during the awards ceremony, demonstrating the sustainable methods adopted by chef Peter Neville and his partner Cecily Fearnley. They only launched in 2021 after converting an 18th-century farmhouse into a restaurant offering relaxed fine dining, a self-contained holiday cottage and a family home for themselves and their two young children. This rural idyll on the edge of the North York Moors is just the place to relax, relishing sensational locally sourced and seasonal dishes.</p>



<p>Of course, the region has seven extra-special restaurants which have all retained their One Michelin Stars, including last year’s newcomer Myse in Hovingham. Feast your eyes on the following:</p>

<p>This 15th-century inn in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales had a deserved reputation as one of the UK’s original gastropubs even before chef Michael Wignall and his wife Johanna took the reins in 2018. Yet within a year, a Michelin Star had been awarded and retained ever since. It won five AA Rosettes last year – the first in Yorkshire to receive such recognition. The restaurant with rooms has now been renovated and extended with boutique luxe accommodation in the picture-postcard village.  As if you need any other coaxing, there is a 25% off ‘stay and dine’ and ‘gourmet getaway’ breaks until the end of March 2025, while ‘A Taste of the Season’ four-course lunch menu is available from Fri to Mon for just £65 pp.</p>

<p>Restaurants with rooms don’t come much more idyllic than this thatched historic inn, which has proudly retained its Michelin Star in 2025 &#8211; not that this is any surprise. Chef patron Andrew Pern and chef director Steve Smith serve flavoursome dishes using the freshest Yorkshire ingredients such as fish from Whitby, game from the Moors and veg picked from their own kitchen garden. The accommodation, with its quirky Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson carved features and charred beams from its previous fire, has seen many famous faces pass through its doors, from highwayman Dick Turpin to actress Sophia Loren.</p>

<p>Born and bred in Yorkshire, Chef Shaun Rankin honed his skills at The Mayfair Hotel in London before his love of the sea took him to Jersey. He was tempted back back when asked to oversee the fine dining restaurant at the iconic luxury hotel Grantley Hall when it opened in 2019. The restaurant was awarded its first Michelin star in 2021 for exceptional cuisine championing the finest local ingredients, such as speciality cheeses and hand-picked herbs from their own kitchen garden.</p>

<p>Named after the Anglo-Saxon word for ‘eating at the table’, this Michelin Star restaurant with rooms on the edge of the North York Moors is as stylish as it is delicious. The tasting menu features quality produce enhanced by a range of techniques including pickling and preserving. Non-alcoholic pairings as well as a top wine list mean you don’t need to stay over in one of the simply decorated bedrooms, but then it would be such a shame not to fully embrace both the warm-hearted cuisine and hospitality offered by the talented chef and sommelier team of Josh and Victoria Overington.</p>

<p>Between the Byland Abbey ruins and the Kilburn White Horse, The Black Swan is an impressive One Michelin Star, Green Star and 4 AA Rosette restaurant with rooms. It’s run by well-known Yorkshire chef Tommy Banks (who scooped the coveted prize of Britain’s youngest Michelin Starred chef when he was only 24, as well as being a winner and judge of the BBC’s <em>Great British Menu)</em> and his family, who have lived and farmed in the area for many generations. Much of the produce and ingredients come from the surrounding fields, hedgerows and kitchen garden, while they also have a commitment to sustainability and reducing food waste.</p>

<p>Chef Tommy Banks, his brother James, who looks after drinks, and their parents Anne and Tom were joined in 2018 by their friend and business partner Matthew Lockwood to establish this popular city restaurant, also awarded a Michelin Star for its exquisite farm-to-table menus. <p>Another from the UK’s Top 50 Gastropubs list, this former coaching inn is lovingly run by James and Kate Mackenzie and has held its Michelin Star since 2010. Aiming to make everyone feel welcome, their regularly changing seasonal menus feature one for vegetarians and a special little people’s menu for children. Located in the glorious Dalton Estate, the luxury boutique rooms are ideal for a romantic or family break.</p>
