Future film buffs can get their fix over Easter at Leeds Young Film Festival, taking place Sat 5 – Mon 21 Apr across Leeds and Bradford. There are family-friendly feature film screenings, exclusive shorts, VR experiences, plus hands-on filmmaking workshops and the opportunity to play critic in the brand-new LYFF Giant Jury. Tiny Tarantinos everywhere, oh my.

SHIRLEY VALENTINE

Mina Anwar in Shirley Valentine

Ever fantasise about jumping on a plane, somewhere, anywhere, just to take a break from it all? This one-woman comedy starring Mina Anwar tells the story of a woman who handles an existential crisis the only reasonable way and jets off to Greece alone to rediscover herself. Shirley Valentine hits the stage at Leeds Playhouse Tue 8 – Sat 26 Apr, and it might just have you on the first flight outta here.

LOUD IN LEEDS

As ever, there’s bags on offer in the concert department in Leeds, from the singalong mayhem of the Sugababes‘ largest ever UK Tour (First Direct Arena, Tue 8 Apr) to the dulcet tones of Gregory Porter – aka Dressed Crab, runner up on this year’s Masked Singer (First Direct Arena, Sat 26 Apr). But if you want the inside line, our two top tips are Lilo at Oporto on Tue 8 Apr, and Peach Pit at the O2 Academy on Wed 9 Apr. Both names on the indie circuit (albeit the latter far more established than the former), don’t miss Lilo’s gorgeous, heartfelt tunes in an intimate setting, and Peach Pit’s boppier vibe in a bouncing venue. Both are hot stuff.

FARMYARD FROLICS

What better way to see in the spring than a bit of agricultural fun? Springtime Live returns to Harrogate on Sat 5 Apr courtesy of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, once again giving Yorkshire’s little ones a peek into life on the farm. They’ll meet all sorts of four-legged friends, from the standard farmyard crew to exotic reptiles and even giant tortoises. All workshops are free with your entry ticket (£8/ £13/ £38 for family ticket), and it sells out quick, so get in there now and book your slot.

FROZEN

Take the kids to see their favourite animated amigos come to live on ice at the Leeds Direct Arena in Disney On Ice: 100 Years of Wonder on Thu 20 – Sun 23 Mar. The show ranges from classics like Mickey and Minnie all the way through to Moana and, inevitably, Elsa, Anna and Olaf the Snowman. Book evening performances on Thu or Fri, or one of a choice of five throughout the weekend.
