We&#8217;re so excited about this one. In Hebden Bridge, former pub The Crown is being reborn as <a href="https://www.waythcivichall.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Civic Hall</a>, a design-led aparthotel from Wayth Hotels. With independent cafés, galleries and the canal right on the doorstep, when this launches (no firm news on this yet) it’s going to be verrry popular. We&#8217;ll update you with more news as we hear it.

Over on the coast, <a href="https://www.cliffemount.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cliffemount Hotel</a> at Runswick Bay is being built as a 20-bedroom, ultra-low-energy escape. It’s aiming to become the UK’s first Passivhaus hotel and the great sea views are divine. Construction is now underway, with the hotel scheduled to open in May 2027. We’re keeping a close eye on it.

Good news for York overnighters, the <a href="http://www.splendidhospitality.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Splendid Hospitality Group</a> have submitted proposals to turn an office block and coach house on Tanner Row into a brand-new luxury hotel close to the station. The scheme would join a portfolio that includes York’s <a href="https://www.thegrandyork.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Grand</a> and there&#8217;s talk of tens of millions being spent We’ve also heard that there’s going to be a new aparthotel, inspired by the medieval history of Micklegate, designed by York architects brown + company and run by <a href="https://www.supercityuk.com/york/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">SuperCity</a>, which already operates in Leeds (and Manchester, Brighton and Edinburgh). Down by the river, York-based <a href="https://www.pivovarorders.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pivovar Group</a> has submitted new plans to turn part of the Guildhall complex into a restaurant and bar, the Mittell River Terrace, with its own working brewhouse. If you’ve got some loose change and fancy yourself a hotelier, <a href="https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/173749811#/?channel=COM_BUY" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Boars Head Hotel and Birchwood House</a> on the Ripley Castle Estate in Harrogate are up for sale for a mere £1,950,000. For now, though, you can still book cosy stays and country walks while the estate finds new owners.

Scarborough’s country escape Ox Pasture Hall has relaunched under new ownership as <a href="https://asquithhall.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Asquith Hall Hotel &amp; Spa</a>. It’s got refreshed rooms and a new-look wellness offer. The reimagined retreat, complete with spa facilities and acres of grounds, is bookable now. 



Leeds is getting a new <a href="https://room2.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">room2</a> hotel in 2028 and work has started on the former Leeds International Swimming Pool site in the city’s West end. The 17-storey development has been designed by DLA Architecture and will include a mix of studios and one- and two-bedroom suites, as well as a meeting and events space, gym and retail concessions.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-just-over-the-border">Just over the border </h3>



To the north, Northumberland’s five-star country estate Matfen Hall has launched its fully reimagined spa, The Retreat, with an 18-metre pool, Roman sauna, cryotherapy chamber and alfresco vitality pool in its sensory garden alongside its new championship golf course. We&#8217;re also delighted about the new <a href="https://www.toppingbooks.co.uk/events/york/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Topping and Co</a> bookshop in York and viral food trend <a href="https://www.acaiandthetribe.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Acai and the Tribe</a>, which is soon to open in Leeds.&nbsp;
